Learning Disability

At Feelgood Focus we have been working with clients with learning disabilities since 2001. Often, individuals in this position experience some social exclusion. Some are unable to live with family or loved ones and can miss out on tactile communication. Establishments caring for individuals with learning disabilities often use skilled therapists like ours to fill that gap. Sessions are designed to be sensory rich and soothing. They allow the body to feel positive in an appropriate way.  Aromatherapy massage can be a beautiful way of reaching someone who has difficulty with expression and interaction.

Service users enjoying our treatments have learning disabilities ranging from moderate to severe. Some may present with;

  • Significant Challenging Behaviours
  • Self Harming Behaviours
  • Secondary Mental Health Problems
  • Physical and Sensory Disabilities
  • Profound and Multiple Disabilities
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Aspergers
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Retts Syndrome
  • Complex Needs/Forensic Needs

Our team is experienced in this area and are aware that progression and tolerance takes time in some cases. The trust and rapport that builds can be significant. Additionally to receiving treatments, service users sometimes take an active role and enjoy making their own blends and creams for use in their session. This encourages decision making, personal choice and furthers sensory experience.

Service users benefit from having regular external visitors and one to one attention. We work alongside multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of our clients as best we can. Reports can be provided on request for family and/or health professionals to inform how sessions are progressing.
